Dorothea and Jimmy will be celebrating their Diamond Wedding Anniversary on 11th June, they met at their local youth club in Liverpool in 1948 when Dorothea was 15.
After getting married they bought a new house on the Wirral where their daughter Penelope was born in 1960.
Jimmy was an accountant and in 1963 they moved to Bourne End because Jimmy had been offered a better job in Maidenhead. A year to the day after moving to Bourne End their son Alan was born.
When Alan was 4 years old Dorothea returned to work, accepting a job as secretary to the doctors at Hawthornden Surgery, eventually becoming the Practice Manager retiring, in 1993 after 26 years.
Even in retirement, both Dorothea and Jimmy kept themselves busy, Dorothea working as secretary to John Slater the local priest from St Marks Church, secretary of the Bourne End & Wooburn Green Relief in Sickness Fund and the monthly Sunday tea parties for the elderly. Jimmy was Treasurer for St Marks Church for 15 years, treasurer for the Wye Valley Volunteers and still found time to do volunteer driving and doing Eucharist services for people who were in care homes or unable to leave their own homes.
To celebrate their anniversary Dorothea and Jimmy are going to Lake Como in Italy and when they return their son Alan and his wife Debbie are taking them to The Mill at Sonning to see the Rat Pack, a favourite of both Dorothea and Jimmy.
