After my request for details of local characters, Nick sent the following. I expect many of you from the area will have met Nick & already be aware of the considerably help & support that Nick has given the community over the years. His family have played a large part in the village for many years.
Nick originally lived in Fennels Way, Flackwell Heath but as his father was a property developer, moving house within the area was a common occurrence.
Nick’s grandfather ran the greengrocers in Swains Market, Flackwell Heath & then went on to running GP Supplies, the hardward store in The Parade, where Bourne End Jewellers is now.
After attending little Marlow Primary school, Nick went on to St. Pauls’ which is now cottages opposite the Old Bell & then St. William Borlase in Marlow.
He joined Bourne End Junior Sports Club – table tennis, canoeing, swimming & tennis were all activities Nick enjoyed. He played football at old Jackson’s sports field which is now Millboard Road / Bridgestone Drive & is proud of the fact that Sir Henry Cooper presented him with BEJSC Sports Boy award in 1979.
At the age of 17 Nick joined Thames Valley Police often patrolling the local villages.
Leaving the Police Force after 10 yrs, Nick’s love of cars drew him into the world of sales at a Ford dealership in Luton & he soon worked his way up to become a director of his own dealership.
Nick & Tim’s business has succeeded due to their friendly & personal service with customers coming back year after year. Some families are 5th generation customers.
In a previous interview with the Target, Nick said “Unlike some faceless, big organisations we offer a very personal, bespoke service. Here you are buying a car from Nick or Tim. We only sell cars that we are sure of & go for quality not quantity but cars are mechanical so if there is a problem the owners know they can pick up the phone & speak with me or my brother.”
Nick is also hugely involved in the community spending over 13 years co-ordinating the Christmas Late Night Fun Night & the Christmas lighting.
